Essential Fatty Acids
Fatty acids are essential for our optimum health.
Lack of them can result in many symptoms such as
lethargy, headaches, lack of concentration, dry
scaly skin, acne, flaking nails, hormone imbalance
and a low immune system to name but a few! What’s
more, our bodies cannot make its own
Omega 3 and 6 so we have to get them from
other sources.
Omega 9 can be produced by the body but
often in fairly limited quantities.
Either making sure you include plenty of Omega rich
foods in your diary or taking a good quality
supplement may go a long way to protecting your
cardiovascular health, reducing cholesterol, helping
with inflammation and improving brain function. The
diet industry has caused many of us to survive on
very low fat foods or ‘diet’ foods with little
nutritional value so it is no surprise that many of
us are not getting enough ‘good fats’ in our diet.
In fact, having enough EFAs can actually help your
weight loss efforts as it is said to help regulate
the metabolism.
Omega rich foods include walnuts, flaxseed and
canola oil, fatty fish and fish oils, corn,
safflower, soybean, cottonseed, primrose oil,
sunflower oils, meat, poultry and eggs. If you
struggle to eat Omega rich foods on a regular basis,
simply consider supplementing every day and you will
soon see the benefits.
